Malindi Municipality is the second largest town
after Mombasa in the Coast Province. It is
situated about 120 km north of Mombasa and lies
within the latitudes 39° 55’ East to 41° East
and longitudes 3° 21’ South to 3° 09’ South.

Malindi Municipality has approximately 555 km2.
And of this, approximately 30% is water. This
means there is a total land area of 362 km2.
Malindi Municipal Council is situated in the
South East corner of Malindi District on the
coast of the Indian Ocean.
It
borders Malindi County Council to the North,
Kilifi County Council to the South West and the
Indian Ocean to the East. Malindi Municipality
has three bigger townships namely Malindi,
Watamu and Gede.
Malindi District borders Kilifi District to the
South, Tana River District to the North and
North West, and the Indian Ocean to the East.
It lies between 2° 20’ South and 4° South and
longitudes 39° 0’ East and 40° 14’ East. It has
a coastline of 155 km and an area of about 7.605
km2, which constitutes 9.1% of the total Coast
Province area.
